Development of a modernized protective system of guides and ball screws of the CNC machining center
Initially, the machining center was equipped with a guard consisting of several sections of flat steel panels connected at an angle of 136⁰. The sections were sequentially folded with the horizontal movement of the carriage (Photo 1-3),
ensuring the protection of the guides and the ball screw lead screw from the electrode processing products. The disadvantages of factory protection were: bulkiness, high weight, poor protection against the penetration of graphite dust and large particles, increased requirements for the condition of the surfaces of the panels, since even with a slight bending or warping, the sections did not align, but simply crumpled against each other.
We were tasked with developing and manufacturing an alternative protective system with superior protective characteristics, more convenient fastening, low weight and long service life.
We have developed an original protective system consisting of vertical and inclined corrugated parts connected to guide frames (57 pieces) and end flanges (Photo 4-7).
The width of the protective system in the unfolded state is about 4500 mm, when folded - about 500 mm.
The synthetic three-layer material of the corrugated parts had an antistatic coating, so the graphite dust hardly adhered to the folds.
The whole structure was suspended on a cable and fit tightly to the existing guides thanks to special stops, grips and sliding elements.
The result of our work, according to the specialists of the workshop mechanical service: more than 3 years of continuous operation without any damage did not reveal any shortcomings of this design. Moreover, much less graphite dust and particles began to get on the guides and the lead screw, so braking and jamming of the drives were excluded. The labor intensity of the machine tool maintenance has significantly decreased.
